This 9 minute piece tells the story of how Justin and Rick Fike got their start. It also contains three excerpts from the track by track breakdown Justin gave of every artist and song on Cellar Door Records Volume III. Throughout the piece you’ll hear music from Frozen Hellsicles, ereact, and Justin Markert. Take a listen below!

http://stateofthereunion.com/cellar-door-records

In the interview, we talked about how Cellar Door Records Volume III was more about the promotion of Cleveland music than anything else, and that we didn’t have exclusive deals with some these artists, other than we’re all in it together trying to grow the community. That didn’t make the cut (the original interview was about 45 minutes). With that said, the music of The Lighthouse and the Whaler and e.react is not owned by Cellar Door Records, nor are these artists signed to any kind of exclusive record deal or legal contract with Cellar Door.

LSD 20 is set for national release on October 4, 2011, and stars Larry Longstreth, Marisa Zakaria, Aaron Longstreth, and Travis Fritz. In production for over two years, LSD20 was filmed throughout the Greater Cleveland area, and tells the hilarious coming-of-age story of a mediocre nobody and his battle with growing up. At present, the film has already won an Honorable Mention at the 2011 Los Angeles International New Wave Film Festival.

Lord of the Rings Producer Mark Ordesky executive-produced the film, which also features Christopher Dennis of Confessions of a Superhero and The Jimmy Kimmel Show. Along with Cellar Door Records, Patrick Carney of The Black Keys, provided music from his secondary band, Drummer.

CDR would like to send big thanks to L.A.-based, Cleveland-native, (and 4Reelz owner) Marisa Zakaria for suggesting the collaboration. Marisa is a seriously talented performer who also happens to be a seriously talented businesswoman, and fortunately, a long-time friend and supporter of Cellar Door Records.

The Long, Slow Death of a Twenty-Something will be available at Blockbuster, Best Buy, Netflix, and Amazon.com. For more information, see www.4Reelz.com. Show your support!

This marks the fourth time in 2011 that David Bazan has been in the area. His band stopped into town while touring with Jimmy Eat World in February, he played a house show in April, played Musica in Akron with his band in June and was back for another living room show last month.

It was a great show with a ton of familiar faces. Brandon from Frozen Hellsicles, Garret and Mike from The Modern Electric, Nick and Matt from Humble Home, Inner Sanctum host Matt Wardlaw, ex-Madison East vocalist Jeremy Taylor and Cellar Door Records artist Rachel Bruening were all in attendance for this intimate show. Check out the video below:

Here’s the deal. We understand that our Facebook “like” count is admittedly low. And truthfully, we’ve got some really ridiculously exciting things to announce soon. With that said, the ad wizards at Cellar Door Records have created a contest that is equally beneficial to both you, the extremely dedicated Cleveland music fan, and us, the extremely dedicated Cleveland music record moguls (umm not quite.)

First of all, if you’re not familiar with us, you can read about us here:http://www.cellardoorrecords.com/
We were voted Best Record label in Cleveland Scene’s “Best of 2011.” We like good music and we like sharing it with others.

There are a number of ways to enter. How to enter:

First way: Go to http://www.facebook.com/cellardoorrecords and like it if you haven’t already.

Second way: Go to the bottom left hand of http://www.facebook.com/cellardoorrecords and click the share button and in the “write something” box that pops up, write about why we’re awesome (or just ok), and then instruct people to click the page and then “like” it. For example: Check these guys out! They’re super cool! Click the link below and THEN click “Like!”

You can enter more than once. (Like once a day).

For every time you post that on your profile per day, you get an entry. For every new person that likes, they are entered.

What and how you win:

When we get to 200 likes we will pick two winners, one from the sharers list and one from the new likers list.
We’ll do the same thing at 500, 750, 1000 and let’s get crazy…. 1500!

Prize breakdown -

200 Likes - the complete Cellar Door catalog in physical and digital form. (That’s 7 albums, Volumes 1,2 and 3. Frozen Hellsicles, Keith Vance, The Slow Blade and Justin Markert).

500 - The catalog as listed above and 2 guest lists spots on the upcoming awesomeness we’ll be announcing soon.

750 - All the above and a genuine thank you in the liner notes of our next release.

1000 – All the above and a vip invite to a private house show.

1500 – All the above and 2 guest list spots for life for anything we ever do.

And a random daily prize will be awarded every day.

And for all you cool kids out there on the tweeter. You can also enter by retweeting any tweet by @CellarDoorCLE and by following Cellar Door Records on twitter at, you guessed it @CellarDoorCLE

Whew, that was long. Hope we’ve still got you.

Support Cleveland music. There are a town of great artists in this town. They deserve oursupport and our ear.

We are very excited to announce that Cellar Door Records Volume III will be available at Music Saves on Record Store Day for a great discounted price. If you purchase anything from Music Saves on Record Store Day (Saturday, April 16,) you can get Cellar Door Records Volume III for the low price of $2!

Music Saves is our favorite music store in the Cleveland area. We’re not the only one’s who think so. Music Saves was voted “Best place to buy music” AND “Best place to buy Vinyl” in Cleveland Scene’s “Best of 2011.”

Record Store Day is a national event. Here’s some info about it:

This is the one day that all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists in the United States and in various countries across the globe make special appearances and performances. Festivities include performances, cook-outs, body painting, meet & greets with artists, parades, djs spinning records and on and on.

Music Saves will host a number of in-store/outdoor performances including a special in-store performance from Parts & Labor at 4pm. Other bands performing from 5pm on include, Shoreway, Herzog and Swindlella. There will alos be other events going on all throughout the Waterloo district on Record Store Day.

Make sure to try to get to Arts Collinwood at 7pm for a solo performance from John Kalman. He just recorded and released a GREAT solo album. Check it out here: http://johnkalman.bandcamp.com/

This is a great way to support Music Saves, indie record stores, Cleveland music and Cellar Door Records all at the same time.

To stream Cellar Door Records Volume III in it’s entirety click here: http://www.cellardoorrecords.bandcamp.com
Bands appearing on the release include: Joshua Jesty, Humble Home, The Modern Electric, Keith Vance, Tinamou, The Lighthouse and the Whaler, e.react, Justin Markert, Tom Evanchuck, David Beans, Diamonds & Pearls, Doug Ivancic, Craig Ramsey, Frozen Hellsicles and Rob Geer.

David Bazan (formerly of Pedro The Lion) played for more than 90 minutes to 45 lucky individuals. Bazan was here with a full band in February at House of Blues and will be back on tour this summer with a full band, making a stop at Musica in Akron on June 12 if you’re interested. It was a great night. Check out a video from the evening below.

It’s a great way to top off the release of Cellar Door Records Volume III. Thanks to all of you that voted. Pick one up well…. anywhere. Below is the text from the article. You can see it on their site HERE.

Best Record Label

Cellar Door Records

The indie-minded Cellar Door (which started as a coffee shop) has shut down and restarted a couple times over the past decade. But they recently released their third Cleveland compilation, featuring some of the city’s best artists, including the Modern Electric, Humble Home, and Tom Evanchuck. Good news: Cellar Door is supposedly amping up for a more steady release schedule in the future.

Cleveland, January 31, 2011: Cellar Door Records will be celebrating their 6th release, “Cellar Door Records Volume III,” on March 18, 2011 at the Grog Shop in Cleveland Heights. Admission price of $10 includes a copy of the new album. Bands performing include Joshua Jesty and band, Humble Home, Rob Geer and Band, Frozen Hellsicles and moonshake.

“Cellar Door Records Volume III” is a collection of music from some of the best and brightest artists in Cleveland. Cellar Door veterans Josh Jesty, Keith Vance, Justin Markert and Doug Ivancic have contributed new material as well as a number of newcomers to our circle, but certainly not to the scene. The rock & roll of Diamonds & Pearls and The Modern Electric, the indie folk of Humble Home and Tinamou, the instrumental post-rock of moonshake, the ambient sounds of David Beans, and the songwriting of Tom Evanchuck and Rob Geer, make for an eclectic yet powerful example of what Cleveland has to offer.

March 18 will not only be a celebration of some great local music, but it’s also owner Justin Markert’s birthday! So come one, come all to what will surely be an event you don’t want to miss.

############

Cellar Door Records is a small boutique record label run out of Cleveland Ohio.
